Toni Lee Mayfield Huehnerfuss, 62, passed away on Aug. 3, 2024, after a long, brave battle with multiple illnesses.
Born in Beaumont, Texas on Oct. 23, 1961, to the late Dee and Ruby Mayfield, Toni grew up in Liberty and eventually settled in Humble, Texas. Toni was a light-hearted, fun, and eclectic person who could light up any room with her smile and laughter. She loved her Houston Astros and would call her brother Alan while watching the games to discuss the plays.
Walking the beach, her dachshunds, music, Monty Python, and Sonic were some of her favorite things. She also treasured her life-long friends from Liberty-Holly, Janet, Sam, and Glen and many others. Toni loved adventures whether it was singing Christmas carols around Liberty or cruising through Sonic to get Dr. Peppers – she cherished every opportunity. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Christ, and loved her church families from the Humble and Maple Street (Liberty) congregations, especially Sue who sat with her often.
Toni was loved by her family, especially her husband Clark. She met him by phone and became friends while working at National Pipe and Tube in Liberty. Originally from Wisconsin, Clark was a truck broker. When he met Toni in person, it was love at first sight. After a fun wedding on October 19, 1996, in New Braunfels with family and friends, their life together brought them much love and laughter. Clark never left her side from beginning to end; it was rare to see them apart. He was her true love and champion.
Toni was a major part of her niece and nephews’ childhoods, known as “Noni” to Kelli, David, and Paul. They will tell you she was more of a sister than an aunt. She taught them how to have fun and shared her love of music. She is the reason they know all the words to songs by The Beatles, The Moody Blues and The Monkees.
She cared deeply for everyone she met and never had a harsh word for anyone.
Toni is survived by her loving husband Clark; her brothers Dale (Johnelle) Mayfield, and Alan (Janie} Mayfield; niece and nephews; and 5 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law Linda Mayfield.
Seeing Toni battle her health issues with grace and strength brought to mind these lyrics, “Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.” (Lennon/McCartney)
Toni was the best of us!!! Bonky bonk!
Due to Toni’s love of her time in the Liberty High School Choir and in lieu of flowers, people are asked to consider a donation to LHS Choir, 1600 Grand Avenue, Liberty, Texas 77575.
