Katherine Sue Simon

Katherine Sue Simon, age 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, in Mont Belvieu, Texas. Katherine was born on Aug. 21, 1939, in Miami, Oklahoma, to the late Morris Lucius and Ethel Katherine McCammon McGowan.

Katherine was a proud member of the Miami High School graduating class of 1957 in Miami, Oklahoma. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Texas State Technical College in Brownwood, Texas. Her career was marked by over 20 years of dedicated service at NASA, where she made significant contributions to the field of telecommunications.

A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Anahuac, Katherine found joy in teaching 3rd-grade Sunday School. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was known as a deeply Christian woman who embodied kindness, strength, and love. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her family. Katherine had a passion for sewing, cooking, and preserving food, and she also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 25 years, Harvey Numa Simon; her daughter, Lauralynn Denton; and her granddaughter, Briana Leann Simon.

She leaves behind her sons, Brian Simon and his wife Amanda of Dayton, Texas, and Steven Denton and his wife Jamie of Beach City, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Rachel Denton and boyfriend Fernando Diaz of Austin, Texas, Amanda Jennings and her husband Hayden of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Clint Kelley of League City, Texas, Brady Kelley and his wife Emma of Canyon Lake, Texas, Koby Kelley of Beach City, Texas, Christopher Simon and his wife Brittney McGallion of Kountze, Texas, Serenity Simon of League City, Texas, Benjamin Simon of Norfolk, Virginia, and Skylar Michael Denton of Baytown, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Addeline, Emerson Kate, Jenson, and Elliotte Jennings of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brenaleigh Leann Simon and Cayson Lynn Simon of Kountze, Texas and Korbin Tate Simon of League City, Texas; her sister, Nancy Hopson of Jacksonville, Texas; as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held in her honor at Anahuac Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Gary Hillyard officiating.

Katherine’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
