Annie Bell “Ann” Daniel
November 18, 1946 – August 31, 2024
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Ann passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Aug. 31, 2024, after a seven-year battle with cancer. She left behind a legacy of love, strength, and humility.
Born on Nov. 18, 1946 ,to Robert and Lois Raley, Ann was a devoted mother to her five greatest treasures: Jacqueline Graham (Don) of San Antonio, Patricia Edgell (Charles) of Liberty, Joan Pearson (Michael) of Cypress, Treasia Clark (Robert) of Hardin, and William Martin Daniel, Jr. “Willie-D” of Austin. She delighted in sharing their achievements with others. When speaking at the 50th high school class reunion, Ann proudly listed her children as the finest accomplishment of her life. Indeed, her dedication to family was the cornerstone of her very being.
Ann, nicknamed “Sunshine”, was the joyful owner and operator of Sunshine Landscaping, where her passion for gardening and landscape-design brought delight to people all over Liberty County. Her ability to create serene, picturesque outdoor spaces was widely admired, and her work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She later became a licensed massage therapist and embodied the role with the same compassion and care that defined her love for family.
She embraced the simple pleasures of life, finding enjoyment in activities like sewing (making dresses, dolls and costumes for her children), cooking, camping, fishing, crabbing, and running trot-lines. She especially loved traveling with family in her RV, creating everlasting memories across the United States.
Ann was known for her late-night trot-line runs under the moonlight, where her fearless spirit truly shined. One legendary night on the Trinity River, she, along with her daughter and granddaughter, battled to haul in a 60-pound yellowcat; even though the fish escaped, the thrill of that experience remained a cherished memory. Her adventurous nature didn’t stop there… Ann once caught an alligator in her throw net, and grabbed a pesky armadillo by the tail after it wreaked havoc on her family’s garden, showcasing her bravery and determination.
Also, Ann loved to read, watch HGTV and enjoyed a wide range of music. From Fats Domino to Freddy Fender, she inspired a love of music in all her children, waking them in the morning by singing, “Good Morning To You” and entertaining them with the lively, “Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog.” She was known for her spirited dance moves, including the “banana peel” and the twist, dancing with a joy and energy that was truly infectious. Her zest for life extended to the bowling alley, where she participated in a league.
She had a heart for service. She trained to be a nurse, dedicated her time as a Hospice volunteer, was an ombudsman at local nursing homes, and a member of Coterie Club. Her gentle spirit and kind heart made a profound difference in the lives of those she served, offering comfort and compassion when it was needed most.
Annie Bell Daniel’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her five children, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four siblings, four sons-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and all others who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us as we carry forward the lessons of love, resilience, and generosity that she so beautifully embodied.
A memorial service will be held in Liberty at Heights Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest at City Cemetery next to her late husband, William “Will” Martin Daniel. In her honor, donations may be made to the Liberty Municipal Library and will go towards the purchase of children’s books.
