Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responds to circulating social media threats

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is aware of messages circulating on social media regarding potential threats, including school shootings, within the community. The Sheriff’s Office reassures the public that all threats are taken seriously, and each one is subjected to a thorough investigation. Currently, no credible threats have been identified, and there are no known active dangers to local schools.

Montgomery County law enforcement agencies are working closely with private school administrators, as well as officials from the Conroe, Montgomery, Willis, New Caney, Splendora, and Magnolia ISDs. This coordinated effort extends to local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of all students and residents.

“We remain vigilant and will continue to monitor these reports to ensure the safety of our schools and community,” according to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

In response to the circulating messages, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that their patrol division, the Willis School Resource Unit, Homeland Security division, and real-time crime center are actively investigating the alleged threats. They are working around the clock to safeguard the schools and the broader community.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages parents, students, and community members to remain calm and promptly report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

What You Can Do:

  • Immediately notify law enforcement if you see or hear of any potential threats.
  • Students are encouraged to report suspicious activity to school educators or through platforms like Kid Chat, Multi-County Crime Stoppers, or Anonymous Alerts.
  • Verify information by following local public safety social media accounts before reacting or sharing.
  • Report individuals who make threats to law enforcement, as these actions have serious legal consequences.
  • Parents should talk to their children about online safety and maintain open lines of communication regarding any threatening messages they may come across on social media.

What Not To Do:

  • Do not share posts or screenshots of potential threats. This can lead to unnecessary panic and spread misinformation. Many of the threats being shared across social media platforms are coming from both in-state and out-of-state sources, creating confusion.
  • Avoid engaging with anonymous or newly created accounts that may be posting threats. These accounts could be deliberately trying to incite panic or create confusion in the community.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the safety of children and residents remains the highest priority and that they are committed to keeping the community secure.
