Dayton ISD Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony set for Oct. 5

Pictures of past inductees into the Dayton ISD Sports Hall of Fame line the walls. Other memorabilia, such as trophies, jackets and jerseys are arranged inside the Sports Hall of Fame on the Nottingham campus.

The Dayton ISD Sports Hall of Fame, established in 2017, continues its tradition of honoring standout athletes who have contributed significantly to the Dayton Broncos and Colbert Tigers, both on and off the field. Over the years, legendary athletes, teams, and devoted fans have been recognized for their achievements, with inductees nominated by committee members, family, and members of the Dayton community.

Larry Wadzeck, president of the Sports Hall of Fame, outlined the selection process: “We consider very seriously three basic requirements for entry into the Dayton Sports Hall of Fame. The first two considerations are their athletic ability and accomplishments they made here at the high school, college or even in the pros. Finally, and just as important, we also examine the character of the person because we want these inductees to be positive role models for our present and future athletes in Dayton Independent School District.”

This year’s induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. at the Dayton High School Performing Arts Center (PAC), located at 3200 N. Cleveland Street. Following the ceremony, a family reception for honorees will be held at the Dayton Historical Museum. The inductees will also be recognized during a pre-game event at Dayton’s home football game on Friday, Oct. 4, around 6:15 p.m.
