Cleveland High School is currently on lockdown following threats called in to the Cleveland Police Department on Monday morning, around 7 a.m., according to Superintendent Stephen McCanless. The first call, made by a student, cited ongoing stress and bullying. Moments later, a second call from the same individual threatened a school shooting, prompting immediate action by the district and law enforcement agencies.

“The student said they can’t handle the stress and bullying any longer,” McCanless explained. Shortly after, the caller phoned back and stated they were entering the school with the intention of carrying out a shooting. Cleveland High School was promptly locked down as it was identified as the target of the threat.

Law enforcement agencies from across the region, including Cleveland PD, Cleveland ISD PD, local constables and deputy constables, and sheriff’s deputies, responded swiftly to assist in a thorough search of the campus. Teams are conducting a room-by-room sweep using hand-held metal-detecting wands and specially trained dogs that can sniff out firearms, ammunition, and drugs. Every classroom, closet, and storage area is being meticulously searched to ensure that no dangerous items are on the premises.

“We are taking this situation very seriously. Nobody recognizes the voice of the person on the phone, and unfortunately, the phone number cannot be back-traced—it’s a 480 area code from Arizona,” McCanless stated. “We are currently investigating whether any students recently moved to the area from Arizona, and we’re reviewing security footage to identify anyone entering the school around the time of the second call.”

Superintendent McCanless, who is on scene actively assisting law enforcement, reports that so far, no weapons or dangerous items have been found.

“We have to take all precautions to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff,” he said. “The campus will remain locked down until we are confident that there is no threat.”

Parents and guardians are asked to remain calm as law enforcement and school officials continue to work through the situation. Updates will be provided as soon as more information is available.

  1. I understand bullying is serious. But to take it that far is inexcusable. When this child is found, he/she must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

    • AND the kids doing thje bullying!! This crap has to be stopped. The bulied kid probably took this deperate measure to stop it as nothing was done about it by school personel. I was a victim of such bullying when I went to scool but it was the Chief of Police who taught me how to handle it. I was lucky to have a person in authority to help me!

  2. I was in the bandhall when the “lock down” started. It was more of a hold and no one was allowed out of the classrooms. We didn’t know what was up until police came in and started wanding each of us, checking instrument cases, and backpacks. We were all pretty concerned after that.

  3. I was in the middle of a ranked match when they started checking us but I won anyway because I’m too good 🗿🗿🗿
