Two suspects arrested in deadly Liberty County shooting

Cook, Trenton Chase Jr.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning, Oct. 16. The suspects, Trenton Chase Cook Jr., and Isela Judith Venegas, both 18 and of Cleveland, Texas, were taken into custody after an extensive investigation.

Initially arrested on unrelated charges, the two now face murder charges following further investigation. The warrants for their arrests were signed by Justice of the Peace Pct. 6 Ralph Fuller.

The shooting, which took place around 2 a.m., Oct. 16, on FM 1010 near CR 341, south of Cleveland, left one 17-year-old male dead and two others injured.

According to Lt. John Bennett, spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, two 17-year-olds were picked up by two friends—an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old male—when another vehicle pulled up behind them and opened fire. One of the 17-year-olds was fatally shot, the other was hit twice, while the 18-year-old sustained a graze wound to the head. The 19-year-old driver was unharmed.

Investigators believe at least six shots were fired during the brief but deadly encounter. Shell casings recovered from the scene are believed to be connected to the attack. While investigators are pursuing leads, they have not yet disclosed specific details about the suspect’s vehicle involved in the shooting.

The victims managed to drive themselves to a hospital in the Kingwood area, where they received treatment. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office later notified Liberty County authorities about the incident. Two of the victims are from the Cleveland area, while the other two are from the Colony Ridge communities south of Plum Grove. A motive for the shooting still has not been disclosed.

Bennett said that investigators are exploring all possibilities, including gang involvement, but there is no evidence to support that theory at this time. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Texas Rangers, and the Sheriff’s Office Interdiction Unit worked together on the case, with critical assistance from Cleveland ISD Police Department in identifying the suspects. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

Cook has a handful of previous arrests in Liberty County, so his mugshot is on file at the County Jail. The mugshot for Isela Venegas was made available the following day.

    • Umm, re-read the article. The shooters were from Cleveland not Colony Ridge. You already judged everyone involved because the article mentioned Colony Ridge.

      • The root of the problem is thug shit stemming from Colony Ridge. A few of the retards involved were from there, and it didn’t just happen by chance at 2am right at the entrance of that shithole by coincidence.
