Cleveland unveils $100K playground at Old City Park: ‘Another win for Cleveland’

Representatives of the City of Cleveland, Cleveland City Council, Cleveland EDC and the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce joined together on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for a celebration of park improvements at Old City Park in Cleveland.

The City of Cleveland celebrated the grand opening of new playground equipment at Old City Park, 320 Hubert St., with a ribbon-cutting event at 5 p.m. on Oct. 15. Mayor Danny Lee led the ceremony, highlighting the park’s renovations as “another win for Cleveland.”

This latest upgrade follows the recent opening of the Cleveland Skate Park at Campbell Park.

“We’re just going to keep on piling up these small wins, and they are going to add up for us,” said Lee, while behind him children excitedly climbed on the new equipment, slid down slides, and tested out the swings during the event.

The City’s plan is to improve all local parks in the coming months. Samuel Wiley Park is next in line for upgrades, including the addition of walking trails and other enhancements.

“We’re taking small steps, but we’re going to keep working at it,” Lee added.

The event was coordinated between the City of Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. Victoria Good, the Chamber’s chief operating officer, shared her personal connection to the park, reminiscing about family birthday parties held there during her childhood.

“Hopefully, some of these kids will be able to make those kinds of memories here. It’s really exciting to have grown up here and to see the small changes we’re making. We’re going in the right direction,” she said.

The new playground equipment was fully funded by the City of Cleveland, costing just under $100,000.
