San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers is pleased to announce two significant developments in law enforcement operations and equipment acquisition that will benefit the community and enhance safety efforts across the county.
On June 14, 2023, the San Jacinto County Commissioners Court convened in session with Sheriff Capers and several Texas sheriffs. In a decisive move, and with overwhelming public support, the Court approved a Local Disaster Declaration. This Declaration recognized the alarming situation at the U.S. southern border, where over 3.4 million illegal aliens had unlawfully entered the country. U.S. Customs and Border Protection had also identified 108 known terrorists among the entrants, while 107,622 American citizens had tragically lost their lives due to opioid and fentanyl smuggling operations linked to human trafficking.
The Declaration included a formal request for assistance from the Texas Governor to combat what was officially termed an “invasion.” The request asked for the use of all available resources under both the Texas and U.S. Constitutions to address the ongoing threats of drug smuggling and human trafficking.
In response to this urgent request, a state grant through “Operation Lone Star” was awarded. This state-funded initiative empowers local County sheriffs to hire additional officers, purchase critical equipment, and establish multi-agency task forces to combat these dangerous activities. The grant will facilitate the creation of a specialized team created from personnel from San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office and adjoining counties to form a united front against the influx of drugs and human trafficking.
At the direction of Sheriff Capers, the Sheriff’s Office took on the challenge of applying for the Operation Lone Star grant, including developing operational plans and fulfilling extensive bureaucratic requirements. Sheriff Capers personally coordinated efforts with County, State, and Federal officials to ensure the success of this initiative.
“It is my honor, as your sheriff to announce the Operation Lone Star (OLS) grant for $1,260,589.26 has been awarded to San Jacinto County and the Sheriff’s Office as requested. This is great news for the people of San Jacinto County and our surrounding communities. I look forward to implementing this task force as soon as possible and am extremely proud of the support from County Judge Fritz Faulkner and County Commissioners who approved this measure,” said Capers. “I also offer my heartfelt gratitude to the several hundred citizens of San Jacinto County who urged and supported the passage of this measure.”
In addition to the Operation Lone Star announcement, Sheriff Capers is also pleased to share that the San Jacinto County Commissioners Court has recently approved the purchase of five new Chevrolet Tahoe Police pursuit vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office. These vehicles, specially designed for the rigorous demands of law enforcement, will enhance deputies’ ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
Capers said he and his team have worked for several years to acquire these much-needed patrol units.
“After careful deliberation and research, San Jacinto County Commissioners have approved the purchase in a show of support for the Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement efforts in our county. I am happy to once again give my appreciation to the public and County Commissioners for helping the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of San Jacinto County achieve our common goals of improving law enforcement service in San Jacinto County,” Capers said.

It’s sad to know but county Judge FRITZ FAUlKNER is the only Judge on board with “OPERATION LONE STAR”!!!
Good for San Jac county. Now maybe Liberty and Montgomery can follow, since I’m sure they have exponentially more mojados than San Jac.
Then ship these primitive criminals back to their huts in whatever shithole they came from.
Ryan you’re forgetting Liberty Counties finest. Coloney Ridge.
