Turkey Creek Baptist Church of Liberty is kicking off its 158th church anniversary month with a special guest appearance by legendary gospel singer and evangelist Dorothy Norwood.
Known for her powerful voice and storytelling ability, Norwood will join the congregation for the morning worship service on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the church’s location, 1600 Wallisville Road, Liberty. The service starts at 10 a.m.
Dorothy Norwood’s gospel legacy is profound. A gifted singer and songwriter, she began performing with her family at just 8 years old and went on to tour with the renowned Mahalia Jackson in 1956. In the early 1960s, she joined The Caravans, one of gospel music’s most beloved groups.
By 1964, Norwood embarked on a solo career, debuting with her first album, Johnny and Jesus. She has released multiple records over the years, including the chart-topping 1991 album Live with the Northern California GMWA Mass Choir, which reached number one on Billboard’s Top Forty gospel chart.
Dubbed “Gospel’s Greatest Storyteller,” Norwood has a unique gift for blending music with sermon-like storytelling, known to touch and inspire audiences worldwide. Her talent for turning songs into sermonettes has solidified her place as a cherished voice in gospel music.
Turkey Creek Baptist Church invites everyone to come and experience a moving service as they celebrate their 158-year legacy in the community.
