Texas Forestry Association (TFA) presented John Brockner of Brock’s Logging, LLC with the 2024 Outstanding Logger of the Year Award during its annual meeting held Oct. 23-25, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency in Conroe, Texas.

“John Brockner exemplifies the highest standards of professional logging in Texas,” said Dave Duren, Texas Logging Council Coordinator. “His dedication to quality work, commitment to safety, and professional approach to business operations make him an outstanding representative of the logging industry.”

Brockner’s journey in the logging industry began while working for his uncle, Paul Brockner, at Brock’s Logging in Cleveland, Texas. After attending Universal Technical Institute in Houston for auto paint and body repair, he found his true calling in the woods, starting as a power saw operator trimming tops. Following a brief stint in the oil fields, he returned to logging and advanced to crew foreman.

In 2017, following the tragic loss of his uncle Paul Brockner, John seized the opportunity to continue the legacy when Steely Lumber Company offered him a chance to establish his own operation. He purchased equipment, formed Brock’s Logging, LLC, and has spent the last seven years building a reputation for excellence in the industry.

“John’s professionalism extends beyond the woods to his active involvement in industry advocacy,” said Duren. “He understands the importance of representing the logging profession in discussions about federal and state regulations, and his commitment to the Texas Logging Council demonstrates his dedication to advancing the industry.”

Damon Burris, Steely Lumber Company forester, praised Brockner’s work ethic and reliability: “John takes all the worries and concerns away from me and the sawmill. His attention to detail and professional approach have made him an invaluable partner in our operations.”

The Outstanding Logger of the Year Award recognizes logging contractors who demonstrate exceptional professionalism, a strong commitment to sustainable forestry practices, and active participation in industry advocacy. The award is presented annually by the Texas Logging Council and the SFI Committee,  of Texas Forestry Association.
