John David Delaney, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away Nov. 11, 2024, at the age of 82 in Kingwood, Texas. He was born on Aug. 30, 1942, in Houston, Texas. John lived a life filled with service, dedication, and a profound love for his family.
John proudly served his country as a United States Marine enlisting the day after he turned 17. His commitment to his nation was a hallmark of his character, embodying the values of strength and resilience that defined him throughout his life.
A respected member of the community, John was a 50-year mason and a distinguished member of the Tarkington Prairie Lodge #498. Alongside his wife, Mary Loretta Delaney, with whom he shared nearly 54 wonderful years of marriage, John was also involved with the Pasadena Mounted Posse. Together, they embraced their passion for riding horses and the outdoors.
John’s interests extended to hunting and making homemade muscadine wine, hobbies that he cherished dearly. John was a hard worker and could fix anything. Whatever task that was laid before him he could accomplish and everything he did, he did well. John’s lasting legacy includes his stories, laughter, and the many memories he created with those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Loretta Delaney; children, Randy C. Davidson and wife Neida, Lisa Hotten and husband Robert, Gwen Bridges, and DeeDee Delaney; grandchildren, Amanda Kubiak and husband Ted, Melissa Mitchum and husband John, Megan Marines, Taylor Sims, Jade Michalak and husband Garrett, Amber Eager, Stephanie Jordan, and Kristin Jordan; as well as his brothers, Michael “Mike” Delaney, and James “Jimmy” Delaney and wife Judy; sister, Brenda Tweedle and husband Sidney; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Dimple D. Creiger and John Delaney Jr., and his daughter, Deborah Snaer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a strong family bond that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. John will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
John will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
Cremation services will be held under the direction of Neal Funeral Home.
