The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has taken a step forward addressing traffic concerns in Dayton, awarding a $27.2 million contract for the US 90 overpass project at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) intersection to SER Construction Partners, LLC, of Pasadena.
According to TxDOT, “The project will enhance safety and improve mobility by eliminating the at-grade crossing at the US 90/UPRR intersection and building a new overpass bridge over the existing UPRR.”
The overpass will allow vehicles to bypass train traffic, which frequently halts traffic on the busy highway.
Key features of the project include the addition of U-turns to maintain access for local businesses and residences, safety lighting to improve visibility, and infrastructure improvements aimed at easing traffic congestion.
Construction is slated to begin in early summer 2025.
For Dayton residents and commuters, the overpass is seen as a much-needed solution to traffic delays caused by trains blocking US 90, a common issue in the area. Once complete, the overpass is expected to improve safety and provide smoother traffic flow through the city.
TxDOT also has made a significant investment to another section of US 90 at FM 1413, where a second overpass project is currently underway. Once both projects are completed, traffic flow will be further enhanced.

Great news! Finally! Even though I don’t have to commute to downtown Houston anymore.

Now I wish we can get a traffic light at 99 & 1960. That was a bad decision to put a stop sign with no right turn lane from 1960 onto 99. HELP
After 25 years of needing the overpass, Im glad they are finally going to get started on it
I love in the RV park just before the train tracks and every day I leave for work I have to sit and wait on trains that are just sitting still. This causes me to run late numerous times so I’m very very glad they have finally decided to do something about this issue. It should have been done along time ago.
Amen to the red lights and further turn lanes needed at FM 1960 and 99 Parkway. That is a nightmare at certain times. Now west bound drivers are starting to detour taking 609-605-610 and coming back to the intersection from the south to turn west. That however causes further backup for the east and west traffic. Also 605 is a rock road so when it starts raining that road will have some real hardship handling extra traffic. There has also been a slew of wrecks from people running the stop signs. They have 27.2 million for an overpass but putting in red lights like the ones on US 90 is too expensive I suppose?
Dayton traffic has been terrible for years especially in afternoon when school is getting out and people getting off work hopefully they have a good design to ease the problem.
About time, been talking about this since the 90’s. guess the railroad finally said no to moving the crossing west a couple miles.
It’s like 50 years behind on getting the overpass
