The Canterbury Chorale invites the community to a special performance of Handel’s Messiah at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, located at 2041 Trinity St., Liberty.
This beloved holiday tradition is free and open to the public, offering a chance to experience one of the most enduring masterpieces of classical music.
Directed by Christie Bean, Liberty High School choir director, and accompanied by featured organist Lonnie Tanner, the performance will bring to life George Frideric Handel’s iconic oratorio, which has been a holiday favorite for generations. Handel, born in Germany in 1685, died in London in 1759.
Every word in Messiah is drawn directly from the Bible, weaving together scripture passages that tell the story of Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection. Handel composed this monumental work in just 24 days, producing an epic score that has stood the test of time as one of the most revered pieces of sacred music.
Known for its powerful “Hallelujah” chorus and themes of hope and redemption, Messiah offers audiences a deeply moving musical experience, especially during the Christmas season.
Following the concert, attendees are invited to a reception where they can meet the performers and enjoy light refreshments.
