After weeks of swirling rumors, Liberty County Clerk Lee Chambers has confirmed that she is seriously considering stepping down from her position to accept a role as Chief Prosecutor for Appeals in the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office. While no formal decision has been made, Chambers plans to announce her intentions early next year before the Liberty County Commissioners Court.
In a statement, Chambers expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve Liberty County in her current role while also highlighting her excitement about the potential to return to her roots in appellate law.
“For now, I will publicly state the following: The Liberty County District Attorney, Jennifer Bergman, has offered me the position of Chief Prosecutor for Appeals in her office. As an attorney who specialized in appellate law prior to becoming Liberty County Clerk, this is a great opportunity for me and one I am seriously considering,” Chambers said.
She acknowledged the difficulty of making such a decision, reflecting on her six years of service as County Clerk.
“It is a hard decision to make because I really enjoy serving as County Clerk for the citizens of Liberty County. I think we have made great strides in this office over the last six years, but I know this office will continue to offer the best service possible to the citizens of our great county with or without me,” she added.
Chambers emphasized that either path would be an honor, stating, “It is an honor to serve as County Clerk, and it will also be an honor to serve Liberty County as the Appellate Chief. I am blessed either way.”
As she weighs her decision, Chambers has invited interested parties to reach out to discuss the County Clerk position.
“I will make a formal announcement on this decision after the new year before the Liberty County Commissioners Court. Until then, I am happy to talk to anyone who is interested in following me as Liberty County Clerk,” she concluded.

Couldn’t find a better one!
