Green appointed as Liberty County fire marshal

Nathan Green

Liberty County Commissioners Court approved the hiring of Nathan Green, 60, as the new Liberty County Fire Marshal during a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Green, who currently serves as the fire marshal for the City of Shenandoah near The Woodlands, will begin his new role in Liberty County in early January 2025.

Green’s career in fire service began in 1986 as a volunteer for the Cy-Fair Fire Department. Around the same time, he completed the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy and entered law enforcement, serving as a deputy for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. His dual passion for public safety eventually led him to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, where he spent 25 years before retiring in 2014.

Retirement, however, was short-lived. Green accepted a position as assistant fire marshal for the University of Houston, overseeing safety operations at campuses in Sugar Land, Katy, and Victoria. After six and a half years with the university, he transitioned to the role of fire marshal for the City of Shenandoah, where he has served for the past four years.

Green says he has submitted his resignation to Shenandoah, effective the first week of January 2025, and is eager to bring his wealth of experience to Liberty County.

“I’ve worked with a variety of personalities throughout my career, and I’ve seen the dedication and heart that firefighters bring to their work,” Green said. “They’re a special breed of folks who put everything on the line for others, often as volunteers.”

In addition to his professional duties, Green is passionate about community involvement. He has dedicated 25 years of service to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he works on the Locks and Keys Committee.

Green and his wife, Melissa, reside in the Klein-Champions area. They have three children, two of whom are living, and share three grandchildren.

Liberty County Judge Jay Knight expressed enthusiasm about Green’s appointment, saying, “It will be a pleasure to welcome our new fire marshal to Liberty County. We are looking forward to working with him and helping him get his department set up and running to enhance the safety of our citizens.”
