Edwin Eugene “Gene” Holland, 73, of Raywood, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, in Baytown, Texas. Gene was born on March 13, 1951, in Salemburg, North Carolina, to the late Erlene Horseley Scott. At age 20, Gene enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served his country for eight years.
Gene was a man of simple pleasures, with a tough-as-nails exterior and an undeniable love for his family, as long as you weren’t caught parking on his grass. He found joy in camping, fishing, watching Westerns, tending to his garden, and making memories with his mischievous “Blue Bell Bandit” grandchildren. Those who knew him will remember his no-nonsense attitude, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents J.T. and Erlene Horseley Scott; his devoted wife Vicki Holland; his beloved sister Shirley Troyer; and his sisters-in-law Mary Edna Scott and Anne Scott.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and unapologetic honesty through his surviving family, his sons Keith Holland and wife Stacey of Hardin, Texas, Kevin Holland and wife Dawn of Liberty, Texas, and Kenneth Holland and wife Whitney of Raywood, Texas; his stepdaughter Candace DeLeon and husband Charlie of Stephens City, Virginia; and his adored grandchildren Laci, Daniel, Logan, Baleigh, McKenzie, Ethan, and Averi. He is also survived by his brothers Clifton Holland and wife Bernice of Buna, Texas, Charles “Frog” Scott of Raywood, Texas, Tony Scott of Raywood, Texas, and Dinky Scott and wife Annette of Liberty, Texas; his sister-in-law Rita Frizell of Dayton, Texas; his special nieces and nephews Donna K. Smith, Deana Troyer, Kristopher Scott and Scott Troyer; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Keith, Kevin, Kenneth, Daniel, Logan, and Ethan Holland.
