Mattie Earlene Pace

Mattie Earlene Pace, a cherished member of the Shepherd community, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2025, in Shepherd, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on Oct. 2, 1941, in Crossett, Ashley County, Arkansas, Mattie was known for her warmth and kindness, possessing a heart of gold that touched the lives of all who knew her.

For many years, Mattie dedicated her career as a food server at Shepherd Independent School District, where she served not only meals but also instilled a sense of care and compassion in the children she interacted with daily. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life; she was a devoted usher at Lake Pool Missionary Baptist Church in Shepherd, where she served the Lord faithfully. Mattie took great joy in cooking and embraced the beauty of camping, activities that allowed her to connect with family and friends in meaningful ways.

Mattie’s legacy is enriched by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ernest Pace; her son Dedrick Davis; her daughter Shirley Stewart and her husband Charles; her brother Lee Simpson and his wife Elaine; and her beloved grandchildren, Charles “Tre” Stewart and Gabriel Davis. Their lives were undoubtedly brighter with her presence.

She was predeceased by her parents, Murriel Jones and Mattie Williams, as well as her son Don Davis and several siblings. The impact of her nurturing spirit will forever resonate within her family and the wider community.

A visitation will be held on Jan. 18, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., both taking place at Lake Pool Baptist Church on Lake Pool Road, Texas.

Mattie Earlene Pace leaves behind a remarkable legacy characterized by her love and dedication to both family and faith. She will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
