Suspect arrested in $500K equipment theft and aggravated assault in Porter

On Jan. 6, 2024, an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon reportedly occurred at a job site in Porter, Texas, involving 41-year-old Karl Steven Dixon, a Houston resident, during an attempted theft of high-value underground equipment.

The case began when a Montgomery County Constable’s Office Pct. 4 Deputy, assigned to the #SafeShopper initiative funded by the East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID), responded to a vehicle burglary report at a local Home Depot. A suspect had stolen underground survey equipment. Shortly thereafter, the company contacted Pct. 4 Detectives when the same suspect committed aggravated assault by attempting to run over an employee while stealing additional equipment.

Dixon attempted to take a DigiTrak F2 underground locator, a specialized device valued between $25,000 and $35,000, commonly used in fiber optic cable installation and underground drilling. After fleeing the scene, Dixon was identified as the primary suspect in this case and several similar thefts of high-value equipment in the area.

The Montgomery County Constable’s Office Pct. 4 Criminal Investigations Division (CID), with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, investigated reports of stolen underground locators connected to the suspect.

On Jan. 9, 2025, CID Detectives, working alongside the Harris County Constable’s Office Pct. 5 and the Houston Police Department, located and arrested Dixon in Houston without incident. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is facing additional felony theft charges involving approximately $500,000 worth of stolen underground locators in East Montgomery County and beyond.

This arrest highlights the dedication and collaboration among local law enforcement agencies in addressing violent crimes and safeguarding the community. The Montgomery County Constable’s Office Pct. 4 remains committed to justice and public safety. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
