Get ready for a day of lively fun and festivities as the Liberty Elks Lodge of Liberty hosts its third annual Mardi Gras celebration this Saturday, Feb. 1. The event promises a packed schedule of activities, delicious food, and vibrant entertainment, all while supporting the charitable work of the Elks Lodge and its volunteers.
The festivities kick off at 8 a.m. with signups for the gumbo and potato salad cook-off. A colorful parade rolls out at 10 a.m., starting at TVE and making its way through the Treetop Terrace community on FM 563 before concluding at the Liberty Elks Lodge, 650 Wallisville Road. Organizers encourage the community to join in the parade, whether on horseback, motorcycle, jalopy, wagon, or bike.
“Some of us will be wearing original Mardi Gras outfits straight from Louisiana. We want to draw a crowd in,” said Samantha Pickett.
The day’s lineup includes a domino tournament at 11 a.m., a bloody Mary contest at noon, a cornhole tournament and bayou brisket turn-in at 1 p.m., a costume and hat contest at 2 p.m., and gumbo turn-in at 3 p.m.
Foodies can indulge in samples from the cook-off entries, with tickets available for purchase on-site. Entry fees for the gumbo and potato salad cook-off are $100 per team, while the domino and cornhole tournaments cost $20 per team.
The evening culminates in a dance featuring live music by Travis Matte & The Kingpins, beginning at 7 p.m. Reserved tables for eight are $200, while individual tickets can be purchased at the door for $25 each. A live and silent auction will also take place during the dance.
Funds raised from the event will go toward the Elks Lodge’s charitable programs, helping the organization continue its support of the community.
