Foul Play: Basketball brawl halts Hull-Daisetta vs. Burkeville game

The Hull-Daisetta varsity boys basketball team played against Burkeville on Tuesday, Feb. 11. During the first quarter of the game, a Burkeville player was ejected. Following the ejection, tensions escalated, leading to a physical confrontation between players. This altercation resulted in spectators entering the gym floor.

School administrators, coaches, and law enforcement officers immediately intervened to restore order and clear the gym floor.

Due to the incident, the game was cancelled, and Burkeville players and spectators were directed to exit the gym while Hull-Daisetta spectators remained in place until the visitors had departed.

Hull-Daisetta ISD is actively investigating the situation and has notified the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the District Executive Committee (DEC), and law enforcement.

“Hull-Daisetta ISD is committed to providing our students and spectators with a safe and secure environment,” said Superintendent Tim Bartram in an emailed statement. “We regret this situation occurred, but we are diligently working with all parties involved to determine any disciplinary actions that may need to be taken.”

Burkeville ISD Superintendent Gordon Thomas also acknowledged the unfortunate incident in a phone call with Bluebonnet News.

“We regret that some of our students were involved in the altercation. All I can say is that this situation is under investigation,” Thomas said.

    • Does not matter. All involved should be suspended and expelled from all extracurricular activities for the remainder of the year. Any adults involved should be banned for life from attending any games.

  1. It dang sure does matter who started it there Mr Watching. I guess if somebody knocks you down and kicks your ribs in, you are going to tell the cops that it doesn’t matter who started it. Just take us both to jail??? Is that right Mr Watching? Somehow I don’t think that would be your feelings on the matter. So Mr James ask a simple question, and a righteous question it is.
