
Rita Fern Wells, of Batson, Texas, transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Feb. 8, 2025, at approximately 11:15 p.m., at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Humble, Texas, surrounded by her family. Rita was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Liberty, Texas, to Roy and Effie Taylor.
She attended Hull Daisetta school where she was a graduate in 1960. After graduating, she attended and completed Business School in Beaumont, Texas, and later worked for Green Insurance Agency, Farm Bureau, and Hull State Bank where she worked until retiring in 2008.
On the 30th of May 1964, she was married to Lafayette A. Wells of Batson, Texas, and together they raised 3 children. Rita enjoyed being outdoors whether it was working in her yard, watching her many birds that enjoyed the feed she put out for them, or sitting on her porch swing with one of her grandchildren or dog Lulu. Every afternoon, many of her friends and family would gather at her home for evening coffee and to catch up on the current news of the day.
Rita is survived by her children, Lesa Taylor and husband Ronnie of Thicket, Texas, Rebecca Harlan and husband Henry of Kingwood, Texas, Robert Wells and wife Michelle of Hardin, Texas; grandchildren, Garrett Harlan of Kingwood, Texas, Trent Harlan of Kingwood, Texas, Tyler Wells and Hope LeNormand of Hardin, Texas, Jake Wells of Hardin, Texas, Alyssa del Campo of Hardin, Texas, Heather Smith and Husband David of Lawtell, La., Patrick Kelley and wife Rosanne of Thicket, Texas, Kyleigh Taylor and Colby Fregia of Thicket, Texas; great grandchildren, Trevor Smith of Lawtell, La., Connor Smith of Lawtell, La., Zeth Kelley of Thicket, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Lafayette A. Wells, Jr., her parents, Roy and Effie Taylor, her brothers Edmond Taylor, James Hollie Taylor Sr., and Henry Taylor, and her grandson Jacob del Campo.
Honoring Rita as pallbearers are Patrick Kelley, Tyler Wells, Jake Wells, Garrett Harlan, Trent Harlan, David Smith and Colby Fregia. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Tousha, William LeNormand, and Robert Dale Taylor.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a service of remembrance to begin at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Chris Contreras at Faith and Family in Batson, Texas. Interment to follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson, Texas.
