Liberty County drug bust uncovers 344 pounds of meth, three illegal immigrants arrested

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit conducted a joint investigation with the Houston Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Texas Department of Public Safety in the Plum Grove area regarding the distribution of large amounts of methamphetamine.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, a Liberty County Interdiction Unit initiated a traffic stop on a white panel van driven by Gerson Lopez Zuniga, a Hispanic male, with passengers Cruz Isidro Sandoval and Adan Aguirre Arzate, all of Liberty County, Texas.

Zuniga was found to be an illegal immigrant and was carrying a semi-automatic handgun in his waistband. During the traffic stop, investigators spoke with Sandoval, who reportedly admitted to possessing a large quantity of methamphetamine at a camper trailer in the 1600 block of Road 3542.

After obtaining permission to search the camper, investigators allegedly found 12 “iceberg lettuce” boxes containing approximately 156 kilograms (344 pounds) of methamphetamine.

A background check revealed that all three suspects were illegal immigrants and had been deported at least four times previously. They were arrested and taken to the Liberty County Jail.

Sandoval was charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 400 grams, a first-degree felony. Zuniga and Aguirre were placed under ICE holds.

  1. More wetback crime in Colony Ridge. Local law enforcement needs to request a huge ICE operation out there asap, if they haven’t already. Also Kings Colony (the original Colony Ridge craphole) in New Caney.

And Liberty County officials- STOP APPROVING MORE OF THIS DEVELOPMENT in the name of public safety! You have failed and are continuing to fail the law abiding citizens of your county, as well as the surrounding counties. There needs to be an injunction to stop this NOW!

    • Straight from the Harris County attorney’s office-

“Unlike the district attorney, which handles prosecution in criminal cases, the county attorney’s office can file civil litigation against a company to close down a business with recurring criminal activity”

They do this in Harris County all the time to shut down motels, clubs, massage parlors etc. that enable habitual criminal activity, and have proven to be a threat to the safety of the public.

So why can’t Liberty County do the same with Colony Ridge? I would conservatively estimate that at least several thousand of the properties they have sold have some form of active criminal activity occurring on them- be it residing in the country illegally, child neglect, animal abuse, drugs or environmental violations.

Any company that introduces and perpetuates this level of threat into a community should have the county and state all over it, one would think…
