Work continues on the FM 787 bridge over the Trinity River, with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) still projecting a completion date of March 2025.

The bridge, which has been closed since May 7, 2024, suffered severe damage when flooding washed out the eastern and western approaches.

Since the $11.8 million repair project began in September 2024, contractors have made significant progress. According to TxDOT, crews most recently have completed the bridge deck, bridge rails and approach slabs on both sides.

The next phase of the project will involve lifting the old section of the bridge and installing new roadways, driveways and guardrails.

For nearly a year, the bridge closure has disrupted travel for residents, businesses, and emergency responders. FM 787 serves as a crucial link between communities, providing access to workplaces, schools, medical facilities, and commerce. The detours forced by the closure have significantly increased travel times, adding strain to daily commutes and business operations.

While work continues, motorists are advised to use alternate routes and monitor updates for any changes to the timeline.
