Seven charged with inciting riot at the Liberty County Jail

Law enforcement personnel from all across Liberty County descended on the Liberty County Jail after inmates started a riot on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Seven inmates at the Liberty County Jail have been charged with Riot Participation, a state jail felony, following a tense standoff on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 27.

The riot unfolded in two dorm units of the jail, where inmates barricaded doors, broke windows, and resisted law enforcement efforts to restore order. While one dorm was quickly subdued, the second dorm—where the seven charged inmates were housed—held out longer, forcing authorities to deploy chemical agents before the situation was resolved.

The inmates facing charges are:

  • Gabriel Rodriguez, 35, of Dayton – Previously held on three counts of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon.
  • Robert Losley, 36, of Dayton – Previously held on a charge of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
  • Justin Butcher, 36, of Dayton – Previously held on charges of Trespassing and Aggravated Assault/Family Violence.
  • Hector Ochoa, 19, of Cleveland – Previously held on charges of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and three counts of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
  • Ike Fiedler, 34, of Liberty – Previously held on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and a parole hold with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
  • Marty Jarrett, 40, of Cleveland – Previously held on charges including two counts of Theft of Property, Failure to Identify, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and additional charges in Harris County.
  • Christopher Collins, 24, of New Caney – Previously held on a charge of Burglary of a Habitation.

The riot ended after approximately 30 minutes when law enforcement introduced chemical agents through a small opening in the barricaded dorm’s door, forcing the inmates to surrender.
