Cleveland ISD seeks community input in superintendent search

One month has passed since the retirement of former Cleveland ISD Superintendent Stephen McCanless. In the interim, the district’s board of trustees has appointed Dr. Rachel Alex to serve as interim superintendent while they conduct a search for the next permanent leader.

The selection of the next superintendent comes at a pivotal time for Cleveland ISD, which is among the fastest-growing school districts in Texas.

Rapid population growth in the area has led to a surge in student enrollment, requiring strategic leadership to address challenges such as facility expansion, teacher recruitment, and ensuring academic excellence for a diverse student body.

The next superintendent will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the district as it continues to grow.

To ensure that the decision reflects the priorities of the community, Cleveland ISD is seeking valuable feedback from staff, parents, and residents. A survey titled “Stakeholder Survey Cleveland ISD Superintendent Search: Your Voice Matters” is now available, allowing stakeholders to share their thoughts on the qualities and experience they believe are most important in the district’s next leader.

Residents within the school district, as well as parents and guardians of Cleveland ISD students, are encouraged to participate. The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete, and input collected will help guide the board in selecting a leader who aligns with the district’s needs and values.

The survey is open now and will remain available until March 14.

  1. With school vouchers/parents choice/defunding of public schools on the horizon, and other elephants in the room, we might see Governor Abbot take it over like he did with Houston.

Former Superintendent McCanless might have anticipated this outcome.
