The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after receiving two disturbing calls on Friday, March 21.
Around 12:30 p.m., dispatchers were first contacted by a grandmother who said a man had informed her that her granddaughter had taken her own life. Moments later, a second call came in from a woman who had arrived to clean her Airbnb rental in Cleveland and was told by a man on-site that a deceased female was inside the home.
Deputies responded to the home on County Road 3802 in Cleveland, Texas, and attempted to make contact with the male suspect, who refused to exit the residence. Deputies observed the man inside, visibly holding a pistol. While speaking with him, the suspect turned the weapon on himself and took his own life in the presence of deputies.
Deputies entered the home and found a deceased woman on the couch in the living room. Emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving efforts on the male suspect, who was transported to HCA Kingwood Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The female victim was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and the male was taken to the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Based on preliminary findings and witness statements, investigators believe the case is an apparent murder-suicide. The investigation is ongoing.
It has been determined that the male was a resident of Harris County, Texas, and the female was from Polk County, Texas. Their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
