During its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 25, the Liberty County Commissioners Court recognized April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, underscoring the county’s commitment to protecting its most vulnerable residents.

County Judge Jay Knight presented the official proclamation to members of the Liberty County Child Welfare Board. The proclamation acknowledges child abuse as a significant and preventable form of violence and death among children in Liberty County, calling it “an ever-increasing problem in today’s society.”

“Child abuse can take the form of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and/or neglect,” the proclamation reads. “All citizens can help stop child abuse in Liberty County by being concerned about the health and safety of our neighborhood children.”

Residents are urged to report suspected abuse by calling the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400.

The proclamation also calls on the community to stand in solidarity with victims and the professionals who serve them: “National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to make their struggle our own and reaffirm a simple truth—that caring for the most vulnerable in our society must always be our first concern.”

The Commissioners Court expressed gratitude to the many agencies and individuals in Liberty County who work year-round to prevent child abuse and provide care to those affected by it.

Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed nationally each April to raise awareness, educate communities, and promote efforts to protect children and strengthen families.
