In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, members of the Liberty County Child Welfare Board, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) gathered at the Liberty County Courthouse on Tuesday, April 8, to place pinwheels and awareness signs.
The pinwheels, which symbolize playfulness, joy, and childhood, serve as a powerful reminder of the kind of safe and happy childhoods every child deserves. The display is part of a larger effort to raise community awareness about the importance of preventing child abuse and supporting families.
As part of the monthlong observance, the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office will host a Candlelight Vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Ave., in Cleveland.

The vigil will honor victims of crime, their families, and the professionals who serve them. It is also intended to educate the public about the impact of crime and to offer hope for a safer, more compassionate future.
The event coincides with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, observed April 6–12. This year’s theme, “KINSHIP: Connecting and Healing,” highlights the need for unity and support in the recovery process for victims and survivors.
In addition to recognizing crime victims, the vigil will also reaffirm Liberty County’s commitment to preventing child abuse. According to the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas, thousands of children in Texas suffer from abuse and neglect each year. Community events like these encourage the reporting of suspected abuse and help build stronger networks of care for children and families.
The message is simple but urgent: every child deserves a safe, loving environment—and it takes the entire community to make that possible.
