Cleveland ISD announces staff reductions amid budget concerns

Cleveland ISD has announced a Reduction in Force (RIF) as part of ongoing efforts to ensure long-term fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

“This decision was not made lightly. We recognize that our employees are the heart of Cleveland ISD, and releasing valued staff members is never easy,” according to a statement from Cleveland ISD.

When asked which specific positions were impacted, district spokesperson Tonya Clark Antwine said the district will share the exact number once all of the staff affected by this decision have been notified.

However, according to the board meeting agenda, the following employment areas were listed:

  • Elementary Testing Coordinators
  • Director of Postsecondary Education
  • Gear Up Counselor
  • Coordinator of Nursing/Health
  • HR Talent Coordinator
  • Coordinator of Federal Programs
  • Coordinator of Secondary Instruction
  • Instructional Materials Specialist

The district stated it is offering resources and support to affected staff, including job placement connections, access to career development opportunities, and assistance throughout the transition process.

The staff reductions come two weeks ahead of the arrival of new Superintendent Glenn Barnes.

“We are deeply grateful for the dedication and service of every staff member affected by this decision,” said Dr. Rachel Alex, interim superintendent of Cleveland ISD. “This is a difficult moment for our district family, but we remain committed to supporting our employees throughout this transition and beyond.”

  1. How about instead of cutting the gear up councelors and FEDERAL PROGRAM coordinators, you cut the perverted teachers.

    • Don’t they do that already? I mean…I don’t recall any perverted teacher being allowed to stay on staff once they are caught.

  2. As a formee CISD peon, how about cutting incompetent principals, such as former midfle school ap’s who know nothing about elementary and hates special ed? And how about less special treatment of a football team that is winless the past 2 years?

  3. Cleveland ISD will always be shady…how about reducing redundant district leadership positions…too many Chiefs…you know the rest…

  4. what i find strange is most of the employees that lost their jobs were 10 plus year employees that had strong ties to the community?
