Three killed in head-on collision on Grand Parkway in Dayton

Three people were killed in a head-on collision early Sunday on the Grand Parkway in a stretch of road between FM 1960 and CR 686, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m., Sunday, May 4, when a 2024 GMC Sierra driven by Ulises Alejandro Guzman, 19, of Cleveland, veered into oncoming traffic and struck a 2018 Nissan Altima, according to Sgt. Rob Willoughby, supervisor for the Liberty County office of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Guzman and both occupants of the Altima — a 52-year-old man from Honduras and a 48-year-old woman from the Humble area — died at the scene.

The names of the Altima’s driver and passenger have not been released, pending notification of next of kin. Troopers have had difficulty locating relatives of the man from Honduras, Willoughby said.

Handling the investigation for DPS is Trooper Jacques Nguyen, assisted by Willoughby. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn conducted an inquest at the scene and ordered autopsies for both drivers.

Guzman’s parents told authorities he had been returning home from a party at the time of the crash. The two occupants of the Altima appeared to have been en route to Dayton, Willoughby said.

The crash remains under investigation.

    • He was a good kid and was just out seeing Canelo’s fight. People can have a good time without drinking if that is what you are implying so yes please do not jump into conclusions. At just 19 years old he was a hard worker and bought his own truck. Accidents happens unfortunately it was a bad one.

      • Exactly this didn’t know him .. and making assumptions about his character is just wrong.

  2. Y’all… 3 people died – immigration status and assumptions on what the driver was doing or why the 19-year-old was out at 3 am should NOT matter at this point – prayers for the families of those lost
