One dead in early morning head-on crash in Dayton

A fatal three-vehicle crash occurred early Wednesday morning, May 7, in the 4000 block of N. Cleveland Street (SH 321), resulting in the death of one driver and minor injuries to two others.

According to Lt. Eric Ibarra, spokesperson for the Dayton Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:55 a.m. to the scene of a major accident. A red 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 36-year-old man from Dayton, was traveling southbound when it veered into oncoming traffic.

The Tahoe first sideswiped a black 2018 Dodge Dually equipped with a welding rig, driven by Troy Belveal, 36, of Nebraska. The vehicle then continued into the path of a black 2015 Ford F-250, driven by Anthony Gary, 30, of Michigan, striking it head-on.

The driver of the Tahoe was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time to allow his family to notify next of kin. Both Belveal and Gary sustained minor injuries.

The crash forced the closure of N. Cleveland Street for just over two hours as officers investigated the scene. Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Dayton Police Department.
