The City of Cleveland officially welcomed its new city manager, Lee Tipton, with a warm reception on his first day, Wednesday, May 21. The gathering, held inside the City Council chambers, gave city staff, elected officials, and community members a chance to greet Tipton and usher in a new era of leadership.

City employees hosted a breakfast in Tipton’s honor, with attendees including Mayor Danny Lee, Councilman Roscoe Warrick, newly elected Cleveland ISD Trustee Pauline Johnson, and Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Ralph Fuller, among others.

“It’s been good to meet everybody,” Tipton said of the reception. “I am looking forward to identifying our challenges, seeing what we can start on, and prioritizing what needs to be addressed. One of my goals is to grow Cleveland to make it more prosperous.”

This marks Tipton’s first position as a city manager. He brings more than two decades of public service experience to the role, having served with the Conroe Police Department for the past 20 years. He began his law enforcement career at the Onalaska Police Department after graduating from the law enforcement academy at Angelina College in Lufkin.

Tipton holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Public Administration, both from Tarleton State University. He and his wife plan to relocate to Cleveland in the coming weeks and make the community their new home.
