Claude Edward “Catfish” Toran

Claude Edward “Catfish” Toran, 65, of Anahuac, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2025. 

Born on June 1, 1959, to Virginia Rae Toran and John E. Durst, Claude was a proud graduate of Anahuac High School. He spent much of his life in Anahuac before later making his home in Houston, Texas. 

A man of immense love and intelligence, Claude’s greatest joy was his beloved daughter and grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply until his final breath. Strong-willed and independent, he embraced life on his own terms, leaving behind memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him. His presence will be dearly missed. 

Claude was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Rae Toran, his father, John E. Durst, and his brothers, Perry Eugene, Ivory “Fatman,” and John Edward. 

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his daughter, Mary Jane Pete, and his treasured grandchildren: Javeon Lopez, Jaeda Lopez, King Pete, Joyleena Pete, and James Pete. He is also survived by his sister, Vickie Renea, and his brothers, Terry Eugene, Thomas Earl (Effie), Ronald K (Cynthia), and Timothy Wayne. His memory will forever live on in their hearts.
