Man injured in hit-and-run while riding mobility scooter along US 90 in Dayton

A hit-and-run accident is under investigation after a 62-year-old Dayton man was found injured Monday night near the Liberty-Harris County line.

Around 9 p.m. on June 16, a passerby called 911 to report seeing a man lying on eastbound shoulder of US 90. Emergency responders arrived to find Andrew Lloyd, a Dayton resident, suffering from injuries believed to have been caused by a passing vehicle.

According to Capt. Shane Burleigh, a spokesperson for Dayton Police Department, Lloyd was riding a mobility scooter along the shoulder of the highway when he was struck. The vehicle involved fled the scene without stopping.

Investigators noted that while Lloyd was using the scooter as a form of transportation, he does not own one, and it remains unclear where the scooter originated.

Lloyd was transported to Kingwood Hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Dayton police officers processed the scene and collected evidence they hope will lead to identifying the driver responsible. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Dayton Police Department at 936-258-7621.
