Motorcyclist dies in high-speed crash in Dayton while fleeing deputies

A motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon, June 18, following a high-speed crash on U.S. 90 at CR 603 in Dayton while fleeing from law enforcement, according to Sgt. Rob Willoughby, supervisor of the Liberty County office for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The 31-year-old Dayton man, Trey Anthony Easley, was driving a 2018 Honda CBR sport bike westbound on U.S. 90 around 11:47 a.m. when he struck the rear passenger side of a 2021 Freightliner box truck that was turning onto CR 603, Willoughby said.

Easley reportedly had fled from Liberty County sheriff’s deputies who were attempting to stop him for a traffic violation. During the pursuit, the motorcyclist reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, Willoughby said.

The driver of the box truck, Myron Aundrey Swoope, 62, of Missouri City, was not injured.

First responders administered CPR at the scene. Easley was later flown to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:46 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Cpl. Nathaniel Godfrey is leading the investigation, assisted by Willoughby. Dayton Police Department and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

The westbound lane of U.S. 90 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

    • Are you serious right now , That boy didn’t have any brakes on the bike you moron . I don’t know why the news reports lies until the truth is known. This is Liberty county not Houston stop with the high speed chase already. This could have been a lot worse with others get killed. Happy Ending you should be a shame of your self this young man lost his life because of a stupid stop and you said happy Ending this is what is wrong with our would today , Why don’t you go tell his family that to their face. It don’t matter your sick and God don’t like ugly and that was wrong for you to say that. My God have mercy on your soul

      • If he didn’t have brakes why was he on it? Why not just stop for the police? Why are you making excuses for people’s bad behavior?

      • So first dumb decision, run from cops. Second is run from cops with zero brakes. Yeah. What do you expect. Sorry not sorry. Won’t say it’s a happy ending because he had someone that cared im sure that will be distraught, the truck driver now has to have that memory forever also. Bad deal all the way around that could’ve been avoided by not being a dumbass.

    • It’s so sad that nobody wants to admit to blame, but the fact is that we can not change things for what happened. So please don’t forget to the blameing bring closer for this family at this time. Stop blaming others that don’t have any thing to do the whole thing. May you have a little bit of peace at this time of h heartbreaking.
