Plum Grove City Council has a new face at the table. Nicole Rose was sworn in to Position 4 during the city’s June 10 meeting at Plum Grove City Hall, located at 9485 Plum Grove Road.

Rose replaces former council member Diana Chunn, who resigned from the position earlier this month.

Rose is no stranger to civic service. Since October 2024, she has served as the city’s disaster relief coordinator — a nonpaid volunteer role she took on following the destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl and severe storms that swept through Southeast Texas.

“I’ve lived in Plum Grove for roughly 4 years,” Rose shared during the meeting.

Rose is known in the community for her passion for animals and her commitment to helping others. As a resident of Plum Grove, she said she is eager to contribute to the city and support any positive efforts that benefit local families.

Nicole Rose takes the oath of office as she is sworn in as a new member of Plum Grove City Council. She holds Position 4.

“I’ve seen a lot of good changes happening and I want to be a part of that,” she said.

Also present at the meeting was Lidia Martinez, the founder of Alaska’s Hope Animal Rescue, a nonprofit organization that serves all of Liberty County and surrounding areas. Martinez spoke about an upcoming free vaccination clinic for dogs and cats that will be held in the city of Plum Grove on Saturday, June 28. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m., with cars allowed to begin lining up at 8:45 a.m.

A total of 100 dogs and 50 cats will receive vaccinations. In addition to vaccines, residents will have the opportunity to sign up their pets for free spay and neuter services that will take place on another date.

In other business, the council approved the purchase of a new American flag and Texas flag for official use.

Council members also voted to donate two nonworking vehicles — a Ford Crown Victoria and a Ford Expedition — to the West Liberty County Volunteer Fire Department for training purposes. These vehicles were originally donated to the city by the Liberty County Precinct 6 Constable’s Office.

The next regular city council meeting is expected to take place on Tuesday, July 8, at 7 p.m.
