A woman was arrested June 20 following a hit-and-run incident that led Cleveland police officers to reportedly discover illegal drugs and multiple outstanding warrants, authorities said.
Officers with the Cleveland Police Department were dispatched to the area of S. Washington Avenue and East Houston Street after a report of a hit-and-run. A woman flagged down a nearby officer at the Truly Plaza parking lot, saying a gray Chevrolet truck had backed into her SUV before quickly fleeing the scene.
The officer located the suspect vehicle traveling north through the H-E-B parking lot and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle continued onto East Houston Street, prompting officers to relay the vehicle’s direction over two-way radio.
CPD Officer Johnson spotted the truck near Bonham Street (FM 787) and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Ashley Nickole Doss, 41, of Colmesneil, Texas.
Doss told officers she was unaware she had struck another vehicle. A check of her driver’s license revealed several outstanding warrants from Polk and Tyler counties. She was taken into custody on the warrants.
During the arrest, Officer Johnson searched Doss’ purse and located a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, as well as a glove containing a clear crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Doss was transported to the Cleveland Police Department Jail and later appeared before Cleveland Municipal Judge Ralph Fuller. She was charged with: Possession of Marijuana under 2 ounces, a Class B misdemeanor, bond set at $3,000; and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1/1-B ≥1G <4G, a third-degree felony; bond set at $20,000
In addition, Doss was held on the following out-of-county warrants:
- Tyler County: Forgery of a Financial Instrument (FTA), Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 (FTA), and Burglary of Habitation — all issued by Judge Walker
- Polk County: Motion to Revoke Probation on an original charge of Criminal Trespass (Class B), issued by Judge John Wells
Following her booking, Doss was extradited to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department Jail.
