Baytown man dies in crash north of Moss Hill

A 56-year-old Baytown man died tragically in a one-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon, June 28.

According to Sgt. Rob Willoughby, supervisor for the Liberty County office for the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 3:30 p.m., Jason Bryan Chesser was driving in a 2014 Nissan Rogue in the southbound lane of SH 146, north of Moss Hill.

“For unknown reasons, he left the roadway and struck a large tree. It appears he never even braked, so we suspect it might have been a medical emergency,” Willoughby said.

After striking the tree, the vehicle began to spin and rolled, coming to rest on the roof in the eastside ditch. Chesser was partially ejected, which resulted in his death.

Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Cody Parrish conducted an inquest at the scene and ordered an autopsy. The body was transported from the scene by Neal Funeral Home.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Corey Prantil, who was assisted by Troopers Brittany Sherman, Natalie Aguirre, and Sgt. Willoughby.
