The Liberty County Office of Emergency Management (LCOEM) is leading a countywide effort to collect critical supplies for families affected by devastating flooding in the Texas Hill Country. While Kerr County officials say they no longer need supplies, and instead are asking for financial donations, other neighboring counties have been impacted by the storm and supplies are still needed.
“As a fellow emergency response agency, we’re working to support relief efforts,” said Antwyne “A.J.” Johnson, coordinator for LCOEM. “The flooding in Kerr County has displaced numerous families, damaged critical infrastructure and left many residents without access to basic resources. Emergency shelters and local response teams are doing all they can, but the need for additional assistance continues to grow.”
In response, LCOEM is partnering with the fire departments in Cleveland (Fire Station 2, 206 Grand Oaks, Cleveland), Hardin (10741 Hwy 146, Hardin), Kenefick (3709 FM 1008, Dayton) and Liberty (Station 21 on Lakeland Drive, Liberty), and Dayton Community Center (801 S. Cleveland St., Dayton), to serve as official donation drop-off sites. Donations will be accepted daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Johnson is hoping to secure other drop sites in the coming days.
The Salvation Army, which also is coordinating relief efforts in Texas, has provided a list of recommended donation items. These include:
- Bottled water and other packaged beverages
- Cleaning supplies: rags, mops, brooms, scrub brushes
- Flashlights and batteries
- Hygiene products: soap, detergent, disinfectant, hand sanitizer, garbage bags
- New bedding and pillows
- New undergarments such as socks and underwear
- Non-perishable food and snacks
- Protective gear: work gloves, helmets, boots, masks
- Utility tools: plastic buckets, shovels, rakes
- Infant care items: formula, diapers, diaper rash cream
- Phone chargers
- Bandanas and other protective clothing
- Rebuilding materials: plastic tarps, nails, plywood, hand tools
- Safety items: dust masks, first aid kits
- Toys and books for children
- Gently used or new work or rain boots
- Boxes, barrels, and heavy-duty plastic bags for collecting belongings
“Kerr County is part of our extended community, and in moments like this, regional cooperation makes a powerful difference,” Johnson said.
Residents across Liberty County are encouraged to contribute supplies, spread the word, and support the ongoing relief efforts for those impacted by the devastating floods in the Texas Hill Country.
