St. Stephen’s in Liberty hosting prayer vigil for storm victims, memorial service for Burgess family

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 2041 Trinity St. in Liberty, is hosting two events for the community to mourn together and remember the family of John and Julia Burgess, of Liberty. The couple and their two young sons were among those swept away during the Independence Day flooding along the Guadalupe River.

A candlelight prayer vigil will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at 7 p.m., for all those who have perished in the Hill Country flooding, and all those who remain missing. The entire community is invited to participate in this time of remembrance and grief.

A memorial eucharist for the Burgess family will be held on Saturday, July 19, 9:30 a.m., at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. This service will be from The Book of Common Prayer (1979) and will include the administration of Holy Communion.
