Jones Public Library in Dayton wraps up summer reading program, announces $2,500 grant award

The Jones Public Library wrapped up its annual Summer Reading Program on Saturday, July 12, with a finale party that drew more than 100 patrons.

This year’s program included art-themed crafts, story times, and science experiments. A total of 1,177 patrons participated, and 3,020 books were circulated throughout the program.

The library also announced it was awarded the H-E-B Summer at the Library Grant in the amount of $2,000.

The grant, funded by donations made at H-E-B checkout stands across Texas in 2024, is designed to support summer programming in public libraries. The Jones Public Library used the grant funds to purchase craft supplies, food, and door prizes for the Summer Reading Program.

The library extended thanks to its local sponsors for their generous support of the program. Sponsors included Williamson Propane, GGG Painter & Remodeling, Rave Financial Credit Union, Angel Lagoon, McCoy’s Building Supply, Ali Cats Salon, AConner Realty, All Star Kids Family Dental, Copper Basin Custom Homes LLC, Atascocita Air Conditioning and Heating, Lambda Alpha Sigma, Cardinal Dental Group – Dr. Onemany, and Friends of the Library.

In addition, the library announced that it received a $2,500 Texas Library Grant from the Texas Book Festival. The Jones Public Library was one of 50 libraries selected across the state. The grant will be used to purchase Spanish and bilingual children’s books as part of the library’s ongoing effort to serve all members of the community.
