Cleveland ISD welcomes new campus leaders

Cleveland ISD is proud to announce several key leadership appointments as the district prepares for the 2025-2026 school year, underscoring its continued commitment to academic excellence and student-focused leadership.

Dr. Josefa Davila has been named Chief Academic Officer for Cleveland ISD. With a strong background in curriculum development and instructional strategy, Dr. Davila is set to drive innovation and learning across all campuses.

Erica Lewis has been appointed Principal of Southside Elementary. Ms. Lewis brings a collaborative leadership style and a deep commitment to student growth and community engagement.

Nely Ornelas joins Cleveland ISD as the new Principal of Santa Fe Elementary. With a track record of empowering teachers and supporting academic achievement, Ms. Ornelas is a welcome addition to the leadership team.

Deborah Rivera Fontanez, a seasoned and dedicated educator, will serve as a campus administrator supporting the district’s academic mission.

Dr. Jamie Bates has been named Principal of the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP). Known for her expertise in restorative discipline and individualized student support, Dr. Bates brings compassionate and effective leadership to the DAEP campus.

To celebrate the start of the new school year, Cleveland ISD will host its annual Convocation for Teachers and Staff on Thursday, July 31, 2025. This year’s theme, “CISD’s Got Talent,” will highlight uplifting student and staff performances, inspirational messaging, and a unified vision for the future.

Cleveland ISD students return to class on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

“We are excited to welcome these incredible leaders to Team Cleveland,” said Superintendent Dr. Glenn Barnes. “Their passion and experience will be vital as we work together to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and inspired.”
