The Hardin ISD Education Foundation kicked off the new school year by awarding grants to teachers at the school district’s convocation on July 30. Established in 2014, the Foundation aims to support educators in enhancing classroom instruction and student learning across the Hardin ISD communities.

Funded initially through a generous donation by a longtime Hardin High School educator, the late Winston Smith, the Foundation provides grants each fall to encourage innovative educational practices that exceed normal budget limitations.

These grants rely entirely on community donations and have positively impacted classrooms since the first award in January 2015.

This year’s grant recipients include:

  • Cristine Wells, Hardin Elementary School – Project supporting gauging growth for students with dyslexia
  • Tracy Jackson, Hardin Elementary & Junior High Schools – Project focusing on tracking growth for students with dyslexia
  • Shaina Walthal, Hardin Elementary School – Innovative strategies for Pre-K students
  • Jennifer Bell, Hardin Elementary School – Sensory experiences for young learners
  • Rebecca Passmore, Hardin Elementary School – Enhancing kindergarten learning centers
  • Jamie Hughes, Hardin High School – Enhancement of culinary education programs
  • Callie Moyer, Sophie Graham, Lindsay Smart, Hardin High School and Hardin Junior High – Project supports enhancement of dance program offerings

The Hardin ISD Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the success of teachers, students, and the community. These grants represent the community’s commitment to fostering educational excellence and creativity in local schools.
