Doris Jean Rush

Doris Jean Rush was born June 2, 1945, in Daingerfield, Texas, to parents, Homer Wayne Johns and Rena Elizabeth Harvey Johns. She entered Heaven’s Gates on Aug. 11, 2025, at the age of 80 years.

Doris was a teacher for 38 years, most of them at Southside Elementary in Cleveland, Texas. She loved all the fond memories of watching her students grow up and become adults. She was a graduate of Livingston High School and received her BA degree in 1967 and M Ed in 1977 from Stephen F. Austin State University.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Cleveland Women’s Club. Her greatest love was for her family, and she will be greatly missed by them and everyone that knew her.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Wayne and Rena Elizabeth Johns, sister Bobbie Ferguson, and brother Harvey Johns.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jerry Rush; beloved daughter, Karen Wilson and husband Scott Wilson; sisters, Ann Johns and Rebecca Hendrix; grandchildren, Katarina Wilson and Brooke Wilson; great-grandson, Kingstyn Harvey.

Visitation will be held in the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. with Bro. Carl Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Peebles Cemetery in Goodrich, Texas.
