8th Annual Play for Kade Tournament set for Sept. 27

The 8th Annual Play for Kade Ragball Tournament is right around the corner, bringing a full day of family fun, friendly competition, and community spirit — all while honoring the life and legacy of Kade Contreras.

Kade, the youngest of four boys, passed away in December 2017 at the age of 4. Even in loss, he gave the ultimate gift — saving five lives through organ donation.

In 2018, his family and friends, led by his mother, Courtney, created the Play for Kade nonprofit to educate others about organ and blood donation, support youth sports, and encourage acts of kindness that strengthen the community they call home.

Since its founding, Play for Kade has sponsored more than 150 kids’ activity fees, awarded scholarships to graduating seniors, and provided sports equipment to youth in need. These efforts are a direct reflection of Kade’s enduring impact — a reminder that one small life can change so many others.

This year’s tournament will be condensed into one big day of joy at the ballpark. From morning to evening, there will be ragball games, a cornhole tournament, a kid zone, food trucks, vendors, and a Play for Kade merchandise booth. A silent auction will raise money for the cause, and a blood drive will give participants the opportunity to make a life-saving difference. The event is set for Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Cleveland Municipal Park, located at 26350 SH 321 in Cleveland.

Proceeds from the day will go toward Play for Kade’s youth sports sponsorships, scholarships, and community programs. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and silent auction donations are being accepted.
