The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has rolled out a new design on Texas driver license (DL) and identification (ID) cards. Beginning today, Aug. 18, all newly issued Texas DLs and IDs will feature a new look, which has increased security features.
The previously issued cards, with the current design, are still valid until their expiration date.
“The way driver licenses are made can make a big difference in terms of public safety,” said DPS Driver License Division Chief Sheri Gipson. “This new card design will make it even more difficult for criminals to produce counterfeit cards, and it enhances ways we can protect Texans’ identities from being stolen.”
Texas’ new DL and ID cards are made of tamper-resistant polycarbonate material that is difficult to reproduce and compliant with American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) standards.
Instead of a gold star, these new cards now feature a black, laser-engraved star in the upper right corner to indicate REAL ID compliance. The new cards also reorganize personal information in a clear and easy-to-read format for identification and verification purposes.
The only way to keep people’s identity from being stolen is to stop requiring people to hand it out.

All industries that need to protect other’s information and prevent fraud should use people who have your skills. Exceptional security requires exceptional hackers that know how to build a system and tend that system regularly to keep others out. The fact that you can already duplicate and create the same id shows that they do not hire the people they should. The smartest thing to do would be to have intelligent people on the payroll that continuously work to get into the system and build the system up and secure it based on that.
I worked for the state of Texas and it uses an old system with so many add-ons and patches and fixes that it gets bogged down too often. They really aren’t very smart about keeping up with the times or staying ahead of the game.
So they did away with the long number on the bottom of the driver’s license???

THIS REAL ID IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. TEXAS AND I BELEAVE TWO OTHER STATES ARE THE ONLY STATES THAT DO NOT OFFER A REGULAR STATE LICENSE. THE REAL ID IS NOT NEEDED BY LAW TO FLY OR MOST OTHER REASONS GIVING BY THE GOVERNMENT. JUST LIKE THE CAMERA FACE RECOGNITION IS NOT MANDATORY AT A PORT OF ENTERY OR AIRPORT. SKIP THESE!
