David Patrick “Slugger” McCarthy

David Patrick “Slugger” McCarthy, born on Jan. 20, 1960, in Franklin, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late Ralph Frank McCarthy and Allene B. Mercer.

David had a deep love for music and found great joy in singing. His passion for melody was matched only by his enthusiasm for cheering on his friends during lively games of dominos. His warm spirit and encouraging nature made him a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew him. David, affectionately known as ‘Slugger’ by everyone, was a lifelong Houston Astros fan. He loved listening to the games and was rarely without his radio.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Allene. Davids family would like extend special thanks to the staff at Liberty Health Care Center for their compassionate care of David.

David will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of song, and the way he uplifted those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
