Cleveland man arrested after high-speed chase, manhunt

A Cleveland man with multiple felony warrants was taken into custody Friday afternoon, Sept. 5, after reportedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that reached 120 mph, authorities said.

The incident began early Friday afternoon when a report came into Montgomery County that the boyfriend of the reportee’s daughter had stolen her vehicle. An attempt-to-locate alert was issued, and Humble police first spotted the vehicle on camera at Will Clayton Parkway and Interstate 69 heading north. It was reported that the driver might be armed.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, and Montgomery County Precinct 4 constables set up along I-69 to intercept the vehicle. A Precinct 4 unit initiated a pursuit when the vehicle was seen near Roman Forest Boulevard. The chase continued into Cleveland, where the suspect turned onto FM 1010, then south to Bella Vista, where he abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Liberty County Pct. 6 Constable’s Office assisted in the manhunt on Friday, Sept. 5.

Units from DPS, Liberty County, Montgomery County, and Precinct 4 surrounded the area off Gulf Road. Splendora police deployed a drone, and a Harris County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was requested to assist.

Authorities said the suspect, who had multiple felony warrants, threatened “suicide by cop” and stated he would not return to prison. He was spotted shortly before 5 p.m. and taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as Garron DeAndre Paul Watts, 26, of Cleveland. He was arrested by Montgomery County Precinct 4 constables and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle.

Watts was also out on bond in Montgomery County on charges from October 2024, including unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, abandonment/endangerment of a child, criminal neglect, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.
