State Rep. Holt announces reelection campaign

Janis Holt is seeking reelection as the state representative for Texas' House District 18.

State Representative Janis Holt has formally announced her intention to seek re-election as the representative for Texas House District 18. Holt, a member of the Texas House Freedom Caucus, was first elected on a platform of reforming the Texas House.

“I promised that I would be a voice for our district’s conservative principles and for the priorities of the Republican Party of Texas. I have kept that promise. I supported the conservative choice for Speaker, and voted for legislation to prevent hostile foreign ownership of land, ban red flag laws, prohibit DEI and social transitioning of children in public schools, protect women’s privacy, and ensure that local law enforcement is communicating with ICE to help increase deportations of those here illegally, through the 287(g) program.”

In addition to statewide matters, Holt highlighted several local priorities. She authored bills related to the Colony Ridge development and worked to rename a portion of State Highway 242 in memory of Lance Corporal Armando Hernandez, a local fallen hero.

“I authored multiple bills aimed at resolving the Colony Ridge fiasco, which were killed by special interest groups and liberal Republicans behind closed doors,” Holt explained. “I will not accept defeat on this issue and will be fighting for these bills until they are finally passed.”

Holt has received recognition from various organizations that track legislative activity. Texans for Fiscal Responsibility named her a “Taxpayer Champion,” and Grassroots America, We the People, gave her the title “Queen of Defenders” for her voting record and sponsored legislation.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of House District 18. I return to this next session with a renewed focus on providing real property tax relief that puts Texans on a path to property tax elimination and on combatting the impacts of illegal immigration on our district. I look forward to earning each of my constituents’ support,” she said.

Holt currently serves on the Texas House Committees on Homeland Security, Public Safety, Veterans’ Affairs, and Pensions, Investments, and Financial Services. She and her husband, Alton, live in Silsbee, where they own an air purification business. Outside of her legislative duties, Holt enjoys time with her grandchildren, volunteering at church, and working on her family’s land.
